Small and friendly language school with great teachers

I spent a week at the school in late October. I did the standard Spanish class (intermediate level) in the mornings and the cookery course with Javier Vilchez on three afternoons.

I was in a group of four, a perfect size. Our teachers, José and Marisa, made sure we all got a chance to speak, and we learned a lot about Spanish culture and politics as well as help with the Spanish language.

Being so small, the school does not have its own cafe or social area so I didn't get much chance to meet other students. I had to miss the introductory session for new students on Monday afternoon because it clashed with the cookery class. It would have been nice to have some sort of social event on the first day, something which was offered at other schools I have attended. But that's my only real criticism.

I also did a couple of the excursions in Granada, one to the Hammam Arab Baths in the Albaizin (a wonderful experience and if you book via the school you get a third off), and a walk through the beautiful Lecrin Valle with OlivaTours, which I have reviewed separately.

I stayed at the Santa Ana apartments in Albaizin, about 20 minutes' walk from the school. I have reviewed this separately.

Overall, I can definitely recommend the Escuela Montalbán as an opportunity to learn or improve your Spanish.
