The Granada International Jazz Festival
is one of the oldest and most important ones in Europe. It is also the only Spanish one to be a member of the European Jazz Network.
In the last 25 years since the first Festival (in 1980), Granada's Jazz Festival
has paralleled Modern Jazz music, with the main national and international jazz artists such as Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Charlie Haden, Art Blakey, Tete Montoliu, Dizzy Gillespie, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock or Chano Domínguez. The presence of such prestigious names has created a genuine jazz movement in Granada that promotes contact and exchange of experiences between local and foreign musicians.
Over the years, Jazz en la Costa
has developed into the most important international summer Festival in Andalusia, defined by avant-garde characteristics since its inception. All Jazz sounds and styles are accepted in this contest celebrated in the middle of the Costa Tropical, in an exceptional location in Almuñecar
: The Parque El Majuelo, situated near the ancient Phoenician ruins, below the Arabic castle, like a splendid open-air jazz club giving out on the Mediterranean Sea. For daily updates of events in Granada, check out our BLOG.
