The Bilbao-born director Pablo Berger said he was “floating” on last Thursday, after finding out that his black-and-white version of the classic fairytale Snow White, Blancanieves, had been chosen by the Spanish Cinema Academy as their nomination for the long list of the Best Foreign Language Film at the upcoming Oscars.

Our beautiful city is also an extraordinary place to hold a cinema event, encounters between young professionals and the public, of the calibre of the International Young Filmakers Festival of Granada.

Hispania Airways will launch new scheduled flights from Granada on December 6 offering four weekly flights to Madrid as well as two weekly services each to Barcelona, London Gatwick, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Rome Fiumicino. Granada had lost in the past most of its international routes with the exception of a seasonal summer service to Paris Orly by Transavia.

Joaquín Sorolla: "Jardines de la Luz"

The exhibition retraces the encounter between Joaquín Sorolla and Andalusia – its millenarian culture, the landscapes of the Sierra Nevada, the Arab courtyards and gardens of the Alhambra, and the Alcazar of Seville all providing inspiration and material in the form of clear, lyrical visions. In these compositions, human presence is banished and flora, marble, tiles, light and colours all come to life. The artist’s brush conveys reflections on water, light filtering through and dissolving geometrical architecture, and the colourful mosaic of the southern garden.
