SEPTEMBER IN GRANADA

Granada

September comes alive with colour in honour of the Virgen de las Angustias.

September brings summer to a close in Granada and the city pays tribute to its patroness, the Virgen de las Angustias. There are two important dates: 15 September and the last Sunday of the month.

This is probably one of the most picturesque and enchanting times to visit Granada. The stalls laden with fruit set up in the city centre, the red and gold leaves of the trees lining the Carrera de la Virgen boulevard, and the warm September afternoons create a delightful ambience that charms the citizens of Granada as much as the visitors.

You'll also discover a gastronomic delight, the unforgettably sweet cakes known as tortas de la Virgen.

SPANISH & HIKING IN GRANADA

Spanisch and Hiking in Granada, Spain
The high temperatures are over and we start again with our Spanish & Hiking programme!

Do you want to learn Spanish and complement your language course with guided hikes? Hiking in Sierra Nevada, Spain is an experience any lover of nature should have while in Andalucia. The area around Granada often ranks highly as a choice of venues. One of the main attractions of this beautiful area is the wide variety of landscapes that are available within a very short distance.

With time enough, the city offers an unequaled eco-tourism offer. At a short distance, you can enjoy natural sites such as Cahorros, Vereda de la Estrella, Cañada del Sereno in the Natural Park of Sierra de Huétor, routes to understand the water cycle of the Alhambra and much more! You can select from a wide range of walking challenges from very easy to extremely difficult.

The Sierra Nevada National Park offers wonderful views around almost every corner and is one of the highest mountain ranges in Europe. The highest peak is the Mulhacén, which reaches 3478 meters. This and other peaks obviously mean that the Sierra Nevada is an outstanding destination for winter sports such as skiing. What's interesting is that Andalucia remains mild and sunny throughout the winter; while at the same time the Sierra Nevada gets covered in snow.

OPEN AIR CINEMA AT THE SACROMONTE

Open air cinema at the Museo del Sacromonte

We highly recommend the open air film sessions at the Sacromonte!

This Ethnographic Museum helps you to understand the history, culture and nature of such a unique neighborhood in Granada.

The Sacromonte Caves Museum is located in the Barranco de los Negros, in the Sacromonte district, and it offers stunning views of the Alhambra and the Darro Valley (Valparaiso). It is very close to the historic Albaicín district.

In this museum ten caves have been recreated as they were 100 years ago, so visitors can learn about the living conditions and trades of its inhabitants. A part of the museum is dedicated to nature, offering information about flora, fauna, climate, landscape and agriculture of the area.

There are many cultural activities and events taking place here during the year: guided tours , walking tours in the area, flamenco live shows and the open air summer cinema.

UNIVERSITY ACCESS PCE/UNEDasiss

Spanish and University Access PCE/UNEDasiss

In 2022 we will start our new programme Intensive 20 + University Access PCE/UNEDAsiss

Our preparation programme Spanish course and access to the university allows you to learn Spanish in Granada and to prepare the Specific Competences Tests (P.C.E.), to sit the exams and to enter any university in Spain.

Our school is a accredited by the Spanish Instituto Cervantes. This accreditation is a requirement to apply for a study visa for Spain in the case of language studies.

We are also a collaborating center of the UNED. UNEDasiss manages the admission process to university degrees for non-EU students with a foreign baccalaureate. The UNEDassis evaluates the academic records of international students and performs the necessary tests to access undergraduate studies at Spanish universities. To get a place at a university in Spain, the student will have to plan in advance what to do. Students can obtain information about the whole procedure on the UNEDassis website itself.

For many studies you need to take Specific Competency Tests (P.C.E.). Our Intensive 20 + PCE/UNEDasiss university access programme is aimed at those non-EU students who come with a very low level of Spanish and who need to prepare 4 to 6 P.C.E.

You will prepare your language level at our school during 6 months. Then you continue the P.C.E. preparation at a partner school in Granada. This institute is also a collaborating center of the UNED and is specialized on the preparation of the P.C.E. tests.

HIKING IN THE ALFAGUARA NATURAL PARK

Spanish and Hiking in Granada, Spain

Hiking tours are always an important part of our Spanish language programmes.

The Sierra de Huétor and la Alfaguara Natural Park is relatively small and covers 12,127 hectares. It was designated a natural park in 1989 and is characterized by its incredible diversity. Geographically, the limestone bedrock has produced some spectacular ravines, steep cliffs and is home to some of Andalucia's most impressive caves, such as the Cueva del Agua.

The altitude differences are relatively minor when compared to its neighbour, the Sierra Nevada National Park, with heights that range from 1100m to almost 1700m. The highest point being the Cerro Buenavista which stands at 1675m high.

The remains of trenches and fortifications bear witness to the battles that were fought here during the Spanish Civil war. The Cerro de Maúllo was the front line between the Republicans and Nationalists for many years.

GUIDED VISIT TO THE HUERTA SAN VICENTE

Guided visit to the Huerta San Vicente, Granada

A guided visit to the Huerta San Vicente is an important part of our teacher training programme.

The Huerta de San Vicente in Granada takes an important place during the studying of Federico Garcia Lorca as a poet. It was his family home.

His parents bought this house on the outskirts of Granada, where the orchards of the Vega were located. This place, situated on the border between city and countryside, served as his summer residence from the time of the Arabs, where Federico returned to find his roots.

Here he wrote many of his best works (Romacero Gitano, La Casa de Bernarda Alba) in the summers of 1926 to 1936.

Today the building is the García Lorca House-Museum, which presents the poet's original objects, drawings, manuscripts, furniture and paintings. The Federico García Lorca Museum maintains its structure and furnishings from the time the poet lived there. The building dates from the early twentieth century, with a simple design and decoration, typical of this type of houses in the Vega of Granada. These buildings are perfect for maintaining cooler internal temperatures, and at night they are pleasantly warm.

#INGOYA EXHIBITION AT THE GRANADA CONGRESS PALACE

#INGOYA EXHIBITION AT THE GRANADA CONGRESS PALACE

This week our school has offered a nice event for teachers and staff.

Hammam Al-Andalus, the Arabic baths in Granada, invited all their partners to visit the exhibition #INGOYA at the Granada Congress Palace. The event finished with wine and tapas :). From here a big thank to our colleagues from the Hammam.

The exhibtion includes more than 1,000 images on 35 screens, each of them five metres high, synchronised to music by Spanish classical masters such as Albeniz, Falla, Granados or Boccherini.

This is the main event of the cultural calendar in Granada this year, and once it leaves Granada, it will travel to Madrid and other cities in Spain before going beyond national borders.

Check the exhibition website for further information: www.ingoya.com
