At the end of last February, Russia undertook military maneuvers against Ukraine and its civilian population, unleashing a war that we never thought could be repeated in Europe. Many Ukrainians are being forced to leave their home and land to countries that host them as refugees which has become a nightmare for them.
At Escuela Montalbán and in collaboration with FEDELE, our national association of Spanish language schools, we want to show our support for the Ukrainian people and, therefore, we will continue to carry out our main task: teaching Spanish as a foreign language.
For this reason, we offer free Spanish coursesto Ukrainians who are in Granada as refugees during the year 2022. The number and the length of these free courses will depend on our availibility. Refugees on a beginner level will have preferences! These courses are only suitable for adults!

We start again with our cultural activities!! Check here what we are going to organise between the 15.03 and the 26.03.2022

The Granada International Tango Festival takes place from 15 to 20.03.2022. There are only 10 days left!
Granada kicks off this year's programming of the Tango Festival on March 16 with the show "Jazz, Flamenco and Tango, the banks of a wide river".
The artists Sergio de Lope (flute), Fabrizio Mocata (piano) and Manu Masaedo (percussion), along with numerous guest artists, will perform under the central theme of considering tango as a universal genre.
"Tango belongs to a country that is an archipelago with cities from all over the world, including the city of Granada ..."

Yesterday our teachers Adela and Pablo visited with their students the Casa de los Tiros in Granada city centre.
The Casa de los Tiros was built between 1530 and 1540 in the style of Granada palaces of the period. Its name (house of the shots) comes from the cannons once set between its battlements. It formed part of the defensive wall of Los Alfareros neighbourhood, hence its fortified, military appearance.
Only the tower remains of the original building, with subsequent building taking place around it. Special mention should be made of the polychromed coffering in the ?Cuadra Dorada? or main hall, as well as the Plateresque doors.
In 1921 it became state property, and since then has been home to the Casa de Tiros Museum, with a library and publications library dealing with Granada-related affairs.

A hiking tour in a natural park is always an important a part of our teacher training programme.
Our training courses for Spanish teachers are aimed at those who want to start teaching Spanish as a foreign language or those who have already taught and want to perfect or refresh their technique with new points of view.
The programme has an emphasis on practical approaches, giving teachers the tools to achieve dynamic and effective classes. We focus on skills need to facilitate work for oral and written production, provide Spanish teachers with the techniques for effective and cognitive management of Spanish learning/teaching resources, contrast different teaching methods and reflect on the importance of oral expression.
The course is broken into two modules: theoretical training and cultural activities.
A important part of the cultural activities and visits are our hiking tours in local natural parks.
In Granada province you will find one of Andalucia's two national parks, the Sierra Nevada, a mountainous region containing the two highest peaks in the Iberian Peninsula and whose summits are often snow-capped.
The province of Granada has also many different natural areas including many places of great environmental value.
In all of them you can find a wide variety of plant and animal species, many of which are native to the area.

Granada celebrates the festival of San Cecilio, patron saint of the city, on the 06 of February.
This day there is a pilgrimage to Sacromonte and a mass in his honor.
The famous Pilgrimage of San Cecilio to the Abbey of Sacromonte begins at 11.00 in the morning, when a municipal delegation, escorted by the four maceros of the city, set off along the Camino Viejo del Fargue towards the Abbey. Subsequently, the members of the municipal corporation go inside the Abbey, where the celebration of a mass officiated by the Archbishop of Granada takes place.
As in any pilgrimage there is a part of popular festive acts such as local and regional dances and music at the foot of the Sacromonte Abbey. Where a stage and a bar are set up to serve all the pilgrims, tourists and neighbors who want to celebrate the party.
Many groups, preferably young people and families, spread out over the mountain and make their country meal with wine from the region, jayuya cakes, salaíllas, cod, broad beans, Sacromonte tortilla and other local products.
This pilgrimage has been celebrated since 1599, the year in which a plague devastated Granada and from which, according to tradition, it came out by invoking the saint. In the past, many people from Granada went up and made a pilgrimage to the caves to venerate the relics before an institutional pilgrimage was made official.

Our teacher Adela organized a graffiti route in Granada city center!
Granada is one of the capitals of graffiti art expression. The most visible of all graffiti artists from Granada is Raúl Ruiz, better known as el niño de las pinturas. His instantly recognizable murals brighten streets, walls and businesses all around the city.
El niño de las pintura's paintings are often characterized by their highly stylized lettering that spells out poignant poetic stanzas. 'Cansado de no encontrar respuestas, decidí cambiar mis preguntas' (Tired of not finding answers, I decided to change my questions) is written underneath his study of Auguste Rodin's The Thinker (Calle Molinos).
The biggest concentration of his graffitis is in the Realejo quarter. The Realejo was Granada's erstwhile Jewish neighbourhood. Today it is a jumble of whitewashed houses and quiet terraced gardens surrounded by high walls. The walls make good canvases for street art.
The cuesta Escoriaza (Escoriaza Hill), Calle Molinos (Molinos Street), Calle Vistilla de los Angeles (Vistilla of the Angels Street) and walls of other unique buildings, such as the Santo Domingo de Guzmán school, are places where one can view and admire the most famous pieces of urban art in Granada.

The Granada International Tango Festival is undoubtedly one of the most important musical events on Granada's cultural agenda. This year the festival will take place from March 15 to 20, 2022.
Since its inauguration in 1988, the festival has become a pioneering event in the world of tango in Europe. The Festival takes place in the month of March and offers numerous musical shows, live concerts, photographic exhibitions, poetry readings and dance classes. The public has the possibility to observe or participate in the various activities.
The most important artists in the world of tango have participated in this festival that is characterized by bringing together all aspects of tango culture (instrumental tango, singing and dancing) and by taking advantage of the mix of elements that give tango its own identity within urban culture.
The program of night shows takes place in the most important theatre in Granada, the "Teatro sabel la Católica".
Anyone who wishes to visit Granada and live an exciting cultural experience will be captivated by the diversity of the Granada Tango Festival.
