El Trevenque

After the hot summer months the school offered the first trekking tour to the Trevenque Peak.

We started from la Zubia. There is a forest track which leads to the foot of the Trevenque. Along the way, you shall walk on past the Cortijo (farmhouse) de la Fuente de Hervidero, the last strech with drinking water. The track makes its way crossing Huene´s brook twice, to farther run on perpendicular to it. Then, it goes to Cortichuela, where you shall prepare the climb to the peak of El Trevenque and reach subsequently its top. From the top you can enjoy the beautiful views of Los Alayos and the Veleta. The Trevenque is a sharp mountain with steep sides, belonging to the limestoned Sierra Nevada. Here, half a hundred strange plants live; some of them can only be found round the peak of the mountains. For that reason, this area has great ecologic value.

La Vereda de la Estrella (Güejar Sierra)

In the next weeks the school will organize an excursion to one of the most popular trails in Sierra Nevada National Park.

"La Vereda de la Estrella", or Trail of the Stars, is perhaps the most famous trail in the area. A fairly long trek taking you deep into the mountains and to the foot of the 3000 metre peaks. This incredible circuit takes the hiker through an ever changing terrain predominantly following the eagerly flowing Genil river whilst passing waterfalls and mountain streams, abandoned mines, varied woodland, outstanding views, in particular of the Mulhacen, Veleta & Alcazaba peaks, and wildlife. The trail offers plenty of shade and waterways.

Trekking Tour to Monachil

On the 6th of April the school organised a trip to the Cahorros Canyon of Monachil as part of their cultural programme.

A group of students, one dog and Paco from the office set off after class to experience one of the many breathtaking walks in the mountains around Granada. And what a great walk it was! It was warm and sunny and the views over the Cahorros Canyon were just amazing. Paco's knowledge of the flowers and fauna we saw made the trip a very enjoyable "out of the classroom" learning experience. Four hours after we set off we arrived back to the bus with lots of photos, new words and new friends from other classes. Our legs knew they had been worked, but we were happy as pigs in mud at what we'd just experienced. So, when that piece of paper with the week's activities gets passed around, make sure you sign up. You don't have to be really fit, just up for a laugh. But do make sure you learn all the words Paco teaches you as there is vocabulary test at the end :).
