The Corpus Christi Fair is the city's main festival. Every year, it begins on a Saturday at midnight with the alumbrao, the lighting of the thousands of light bulbs on the façade, and ends the following Saturday with a fireworks display.

More than five hundred years old, these Corpus celebrations were first held under royal mandate. They form part of the most joyful traditions preserved by the city and throughout its history they have served as a break in the daily life of the people of Granada, providing days of healthy conviviality and fun.

Granada smells of Corpus Christi and dresses up as Corpus Christi during these days when a whole range of cultural events, among which the bullfighting festivities stand out, share time with the ornate stalls and the thrilling swings of the fair.

The fair usually takes place in the month of June but does not have a specific date, as it depends on Easter Week. The way to know the beginning of Corpus Christi is to count 60 days from Easter Monday, the first Monday after Easter Sunday, and this will give us the Thursday of Corpus Christi, the big day of the week.

The fair atmosphere can be enjoyed both day and night. The elegant horse-drawn carriages full of people dressed in the typical regional costumes, the flamenco atmosphere, the ‘casetas’ (stalls) and all their ornaments, all of which are decorated to the smallest detail.

In the Granada fair, unlike other fairs, the public casetas are interspersed with the private ones so that the visitor can freely access each of them.

During the week of the fair there are two processions that go through the main streets of the city:

Every Wednesday of the fair, at mid-morning, the Tarasca, a mannequin wearing the clothes that will be in fashion for the following season, rides through the city on the back of a fierce dragon that seems to be surrendered at her feet. So the best kept secret, until her departure, is the outfit she will be wearing that day. La Tarasca, it could be said, is the pagan counterpoint to the religious festival.

Granada's big festival is organised around Thursday, the day of Corpus Christi, when the whole city fills the streets to watch the procession of the Blessed Sacrament from the altar.

On the Sunday of the week following Corpus Christi, a small procession takes place around the Cathedral, the so-called Octava del Corpus.

In spring we offer regular weekly cultural walks with our teacher Francisco. Some options are:

- Guided visit to the Granada Sciene Park
The Parque de las Ciencias de Granada is an interactive museum located in the Spanish city of Granada. It was inaugurated in May 1995 and currently occupies 70 000 m². It is located in an area of the Figares district and has become one of the main tourist attractions of the city.

- Walk to the forest of the Alhambra
The "Bosque de Alhambra" is the forest that encircles the fortres Alhambra. Its boundaries is generally set by the fence surrounding the complex which starts at the bastion tower "Torre de los Picos" on the north bank of the river Darro, and to the wall that connects the Alhambra with the "Torre Bermejas" towers which covers northern and western area around the Moorish fortress

- Literary walk to the Fuente del Avellano
This walk along the left side of the River Darro will bring you closer to the history of poetry and literature in Granada. In 1897, Ángel Ganivet and Fuente del Avellano fraternity were gathering together next to this fountain, while enjoying the views of the caves and the Sacromonte Abbey. Since 2003, several plates with poems written by local and international authors are along the way guiding you to the fountain.

-The viewpoints of the Sacromonte
The Sacromonte district of Granada has several viewpoints offering panoramic views of the city, including the Alhambra, the Generalife and the Albaicín. One of the most outstanding is the Mirador de las Cuevas, located next to the Museo Cuevas del Sacromonte, which offers sweeping views of the Alhambra and the city.

On May 3 takes place in Granada and its province one of the most popular festivities in Andalusia: the day of the Cross. For this day the streets, squares, courtyards and even shop windows are decorated and filled with wonderful altars in honor of the Holy Cross. It is also a feast celebrated in the towns of the province.

The feast of the Day of the Cross 2025 will be celebrated in Granada from Friday, May 2 at 14.00 until Saturday, May 3 after midnight. This festival, which attracts thousands of visitors from all over Spain every year, has pagan and Christian origins. In the year 1625 an alabaster cross was made in the neighborhood of San Lázaro and all the neighbors of the area celebrated it by singing and dancing next to it.

Later, the tradition continued in the more typical neighborhoods, such as the Albaycín and the Realejo, and children began to build small altars decorated with manila shawls, ceramics and copper objects.

This year 2025 there will be 62 crosses installed in the capital. A novelty is the May cross that Cervezas Alhambra will install in the esplanade of the Palacio de Congresos to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
