La Alpujarra de Granada is a mountainous district in Southern Spain, which stretches south from the Sierra Nevada.

This excursion not only includes interesting cultural elements but is also recommended for those interested in nature and landscape since it is placed in the area of Sierra Nevada mountains on the Mediterranean.

The climate variety here has made the Alpujarras one of the most important areas in Europe for botanists, because of the variety of species to be found.

We must also take into account the important Moorish cultural heritage, the characteristic landscape made up of small white villages with their earthen, flat-roofed houses, and their small terraces cut into the mountainside for farming, some of which are over 2.000 metres above sea level. All of these aspects combine to make a visit to this unique area a must.

Enjoy a Flamenco show at any time during the week! We can inform you about availibility and prices at different places!

SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE ELE SCHOOL CERTIFICATE

Due to the major sustainability challenges facing humanity,  the United Nations General Assembly approved the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, an opportunity for all societies to end poverty and embark on a path towards peace, prosperity and opportunities for all.

The 2030 agenda has seventeen goals, ranging from the elimination of poverty to combating climate change, education, women’s equality and environmental protection.

The educational sector has a central role to play in this roadmap, which is both a responsibility and an opportunity to align the goals of language schools with those of equity and sustainability.

At FEDELE (the Federation of Spanish Language Schools in Spain), all  memeber schools understand hat sustainability is an essential tool for leading to a change in the social model, giving priority to solidarity, diversity, equity, rational development, and personal and collective well-being. All schools constitute a key scenario in the environmental field, both because of the environmental impact derived from the activities they carry out and because they must be committed to transmitting and extending among students and employees an environmental culture based on responsibility.

FEDELE offers its member schools a seal of quality called Socially Responsible ELE School with the aim of having schools that care for the environment, schools that promote values and human rights and schools that are socially responsible.

Escuela Montalbañn has obtained the seal SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE ELE SCHOOL in 2023.

CORPUS CHRISTI IN GRANADA

For a whole week there are all kind of celebrations and cultural events in the streets and at the fairground: puppet shows, bullfighting, flamenco, music performances, traditional processions, and exhibitions.

Two major processions usually take place in Granada during Corpus Christi.

The first is the Tarasca, of pagan origin, which takes place on Wednesday morning and marks the beginning of a long school break. In this procession, a figure of a woman on a dragon is accompanied by gigantes y cabezudos. These caracthers are key participants of the celebrations, since they represent important people in the history of Granada.

The other procession, takes place on Thursday, the Corpus Christi day, and is a solemn and religious event.

A week before the fair, the carocas (a traditional satirical competition) are displayed in Plaza Bib-Rambla. These carocas are cartoons with satirical verses which humorously highlight major local and national events that took place during the year. The authors are usually local artists, most of them amateurs who compete among hundreds of participants to be selected. Every year only 20 carocas are published. This year from 260 carocas presented 20 were selected and will be displayed in Plaza Bib Rambla on May 11th.

Meeting point: School
Guide: School teacher
Price: each student pays his consumption

A tapa is a type of appetizer which is served when you order a drink. Serving tapas to customers is a typical Spanish tradition preserved through the whole of Spain. In some cities, such as Granada, the tapas are free. They can vary from just a few peanuts or a small dish of olives, to almost a mini meal in itself. One of the most enjoyable pleasures of the Spanish culture, is to go out with your friends for tapas. You usually only stay in each tapas bar for one or two drinks, so that you can go to a series of different bars in one evening. In some tapas bars you can choose your tapa, whereas in others, there is a set list of tapas that you get according to the type which is being served.
