A visit to Granada city center is always a part of our Spanish language programmes.
One of the most interesting places are:
Carrera del Darro is the name given to the entire left bank of the River Darro. This offers a picturesque romantic cobblestoned street to stroll around preferably during sunset or while you can look at the starry night sky. On a sunny day, the walk by the river can be pleasant with many shops, cafes, and street musicians fringing the banks.
The Paseo de Los Tristes is also known as the Promenade of the Sad Ones. You can find people going crazy walking around trying to locate this street on the map because it is one of those places in the city which is neither on the street map nor on the GPS. Contrary to its name, this street is full of life with colors, churches, museums, palaces, and aromas which makes it a perfect place to sit down and consume the idyll beauty of Granada. Plaza Nueva can be found adjacently situated with the Carrera del Darro which is the oldest square in Granada.
The Moorish marketplace, Alcaiceria is situated off the main streets of Granada. Brimming with stores, cafes, churches and tourists and locals, there's no leaving our city without visiting the Alcaiceria. With faint resemblance to a Morrocan mini-souk, indulge in a shopping lamps, exotic natural tea, trinkets and other souvenirs as a memory of this gorgeous town. Even if you don't intend to buy anything, just a walk through this vibrant souq takes you back to the Arabian fables you've read in your childhood.

Hiking tours to the Cahorros Gorge in Monachil!
This week we have started with our first complementary activities. Our teacher Paco has guided his group to the Cahorros Gorge in Monachil.
During the hiking activities our students have the opportunity to practice their Spanish with the teacher and to enjoy the phantastic landscapes around Granada.
The gorge of the Río Monachil is one of the most beautiful, popular and easiest hiking routes in the whole province of Granada. The gorge itself is known as Los Cahorros. It is very popular with climbers and day-trippers alike, due to its proximity to the city of Granada.
Los Cahorros is a mid-mountain limestone area, made up of formations that are younger than the higher peaks and are subject to more erosion. Due to the scarcity of soil, human intervention and the altitude here, a number of shrubs, such as willows, poplars, rushes and esparto fields, thrive alongside the riverbed in the V-shaped valley of the Río Monachil. This unique vegetation in turn gives rise to the rich wildlife, such as birds, amphibians and mammals, such as the wild boar and Spanish ibex.

At our Spanish language school students have the option to complement their lessons with cultural activities.

A guided visit to the Huerta San Vicente is an important part of our teacher training programme.
The Huerta de San Vicente in Granada takes an important place during the studying of Federico Garcia Lorca as a poet. It was his family home.
His parents bought this house on the outskirts of Granada, where the orchards of the Vega were located. This place, situated on the border between city and countryside, served as his summer residence from the time of the Arabs, where Federico returned to find his roots.
Here he wrote many of his best works (Romacero Gitano, La Casa de Bernarda Alba) in the summers of 1926 to 1936.
Today the building is the García Lorca House-Museum, which presents the poet's original objects, drawings, manuscripts, furniture and paintings. The Federico García Lorca Museum maintains its structure and furnishings from the time the poet lived there. The building dates from the early twentieth century, with a simple design and decoration, typical of this type of houses in the Vega of Granada. These buildings are perfect for maintaining cooler internal temperatures, and at night they are pleasantly warm.
