At our Spanish language school students have the option to complement their lessons with cultural activities.

A guided visit to the Huerta San Vicente is an important part of our teacher training programme.
The Huerta de San Vicente in Granada takes an important place during the studying of Federico Garcia Lorca as a poet. It was his family home.
His parents bought this house on the outskirts of Granada, where the orchards of the Vega were located. This place, situated on the border between city and countryside, served as his summer residence from the time of the Arabs, where Federico returned to find his roots.
Here he wrote many of his best works (Romacero Gitano, La Casa de Bernarda Alba) in the summers of 1926 to 1936.
Today the building is the García Lorca House-Museum, which presents the poet's original objects, drawings, manuscripts, furniture and paintings. The Federico García Lorca Museum maintains its structure and furnishings from the time the poet lived there. The building dates from the early twentieth century, with a simple design and decoration, typical of this type of houses in the Vega of Granada. These buildings are perfect for maintaining cooler internal temperatures, and at night they are pleasantly warm.

Our teacher Paco has organised a visit to the beautiful Carmen de los Martires as a complement to the Spanish classes in the morning.
Just a few metres away from the Alhambra, Granada keeps one of its most delightful gardens, the Carmen de los Martires. The garden is an oasis hidden away from the hustle of the city. Here you will find an unique environmentwith a spectacular view of the city.
It's a 19th century mansion surrounded by an oasis of plants, statues, grottos, waterfalls and even a lake, with a romantic tower and a bridge. It's the ideal place for a stroll, to relax or even to feed the ducks and swans living there.
Boabdil, the last Nasrid king, left the city by crossing this area and keeping it in his memory. Queen Isabel requested a chapel to be built there in memory of the martyrs who died. This is how it came to be known as Carmen de los Mártires.
To get to Carmen de los Mártires you can walk up from Campo de Príncipe, behind the cross towards the Alhambra Palace hotel, or from Plaza Nueva, via the Arco de las Granadas. You can also take the Alhambra bus from Gran Vía, or electric train from Plaza Nueva.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation and the local restrictions we can not organize so many cultural activities outside of the school.
So, what is the alternative? Well, we organize the activities inside of our school building.
This week our students from Morocco have prepareed a fantastic breakfast/lunch (= brunch) with typicall dishes from their home country for teachers and students.
We all enjoyed very much tea, cakes and all the other delicious little things :)

We complement our Spanish language classes with out goings in Granada city center!
This morning our students tgether with our teacher Marisa have visited the churreria "Que Porras". It is runned by Marisa's husband. The place is located very near to our school in the picturesque Realejo quarter.
So lets take a look at churros in more detail! Where does the tradition come from and how are they really eaten in Spain?
On Molly's BLOG you will find interesting information about our typically Spanish breakfast chocolate & churros!

Guided visit to Granada city center with our teacher Paco!
Today our teacher Paco has visited the Carlos V. Palace with his students.
The Charles V. Palace is a Renaissance building located on the top of the Alhambra hill and inside the Nasrid fortification of the Alhambra. When Carlos V came to Granada on his honeymoon, he fell in love with the Alhambra and the city. He took up residence in the Arab palaces but decided to build his own larger, more spacious palace adjoining the Nasrid Palaces so that he could continue to enjoy them.
He commissioned an architect to design a building befitting a Roman Emperor and work began in 1527.
The palace building is 63m2 square on the outside with a 30m diameter circular courtyard on the inside.
The project was partly paid for with taxes collected from the Moriscos (Muslims who had converted to Christianity) in return for being allowed to stay in Granada and continue with their traditions.
