Fritz-Ruoff-Schule from Nürtlingen at Escuela Montalbán

As every year the Spanish teacher Simon Schilling from the Fritz-Ruoff-Schule in Nürtlingen (Germany) came to Granada with a student group.

They participated in a Spanish course and in different cultural activities. Paco took this group photo during his guided visit to the Arabic quarter Albaícin.

Our most popular cultural activities

These were, without doubt, our most popular cultural activities until June:

During the first six months of 2011 approx. 50 students participated in our horseback riding programme; a similar number of students booked the Arabic bath, including a fantastic massage.

Gymnasium Wandlitz at the "Tarasca"

As every year, a teenager group from Gymnasium Wandlitz (Berlin / Germany) is participating in a Spanish language programme at our school.

This morning our teenager group from the Gymansium Wandlitz (Berlin / Germany) visited, together with the teachers Elena and Paco, the famous "Tarasca" procession.

Escuela Montalbán sponsored Hermann Grundschule (Münster / Germany)

Escuela Montalbán sponsored a school marathon at the Hermann Grundschule in Münster, Germany.

In May the Hermann Grundschule in Münster, Germany organised sponsored running sessions for the 6 to 10 years old kids. Our school was one of the participating sponsors. The collected money will be used to buy new school material, especially for the sports department.

This week two new Spanish schools in South America joined TANDEM International.

We welcome Academia Buenos Aires in Argentina and Academia Uruguay, located in Montevideo, as new members of the TANDEM International network.

We just received the European Grundtvig accreditation (adult education) for our Teacher Training courses in 2012.

Ha muerto el escritor Ernesto Sabato

El escritor argentino Ernesto Sabato murió ayer a los 99 años.

Ha muerto Ernesta Sabato. Sabato fue, junto a Borges, una de las grandes figuras de la literatura argentina contemporánea. Fue el representante de una generación que utilizó las letras como pancarta política y como reclamo social.

Granada Film Festival "Cines del Sur"

The aim of the Granada Film Festival "Cines del Sur" ("Cinemas from the South") is to disseminate and promote films made in the countries of the so-called geopolitical south.

Thus, the Festival will provide a space for the meeting of both young filmmakers and established talents from these countries, allowing for the screening of both new productions and emblematic and historic works. The Festival will be the platform for an annual meeting of films coming from the South. The Granada Film Festival "Cines del Sur" will be held annually, having designated the edition of the Festival by 04th June-10th June, 2011. The programme will be published soon at www.cinesdelsur.com

International Poetry Festival in Granada

Mario Vargas Llosa will inaugurate the International Poetry Festival in Granada.

Mario Vargas Llosa, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, will inaugurate the eighth International Poetry Festival in Granada being held from May 9th to May 13th 2011.

On May 10th at the Auditorio Manuel de Falla, Mario Vargas Llosa will talk about his relationship with poetry and other literature-related issues. During the day,  there will also be recitals by the pianist Rosa Torres Pardo and the poet Luis García Montero.

On May 12th, the ‘Federico García Lorca’ prize will be awarded to Málaga poet María Victoria Atencia.
