Granada International Jazz Festival

The International Jazz Festival in Granada, Spain

The Granada International Jazz Festival is one of the oldest and most important in Europe. It is also the only Spanish member of the Europe Jazz Network. Over the last 25 years since the First Festival (1980), its history has paralleled that of of modern jazz and the principal national and international jazz figures, such as Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Charlie Haden, Art Blakey, Tete Montoliu, Dizzy Gillespie, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock or Chano Domínguez. The presence of such prestegious names has created a genuine jazz movement in Granada that promotes contact and exchange of experiences between local and foreign musicians.

Over the years Jazz en la Costa has developed into the most important international summer Festival in Andalusia, which has enjoyed an avant-garde character since its inception. All of the styles and sounds of Jazz have a place in this contest celebrated in Almuñecar, in the middle of the Costa Tropical, in an exceptional location: The Parque El Majuelo, situated near the ancient Phoenician ruins, below the Arab castle, like a splendid open-air jazz club beside the Mediterranean Sea.
